Shelby Hannula was just one year old when her sister Riley donated her hair to Locks of Love. 5 years after, she's the same age as Riley was when her hair was cropped short. This summer, Shelby made a decision to follow in her sister's steps and slash her hair for a little girl with cancer. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that takes donations of hair and fashions them into hairpieces for youngsters who have lost their hair due to any sickness or medical condition. When she made a decision it was time for short hair, she followed Riley's lead. Some weeks back, the family hairstylist platted Shelby's hair for the last time and cut off the 10-inch plat. Shelby's golden blonde hair will be fashioned into a wig so that another small girl with cancer or some other illness won't have to cope with being bald.

At once afterward, the family went to Indiana to visit great-aunt Janet, who not long ago lost her hair to cancer and chemotherapy. "I'm not sure if Shelby truly accepted the impact of what she was doing till she saw Aunt Janet"her mom, Laurie, recounted. Whilst on the visit, the family occurred to look at a picture, "The Final Gift"about a little girl with cancer who wore a wig. "I needed to help the folk with cancer"Shelby claimed. As the sisters looked thru family photograph albums with footage of themselves and their varying hair lengths, they talked about another one of their buddies who was not long ago diagnosed with leukemia and lost her hair to the illness. "She's still the same person"Riley claimed of her buddy. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to kids eighteen and younger with medical hair loss.
